Best Generation Ever
Have you ever said to your parents, you cannot understand me because we are
from a different generation? My children tell me this all the time. How different are
Generation X with Generation Y? There is a lot of variation such as the social life,
upbringing, and the status of women.
First, the social life is completely different. For instance, Generation X celebrates
holidays with people who come out to see their friends, neighbors, and their relatives in
the early morning after the Eid prayer to congratulate each other. On the other hand, in
Generation Y the situation is different as people go out in the evening to congratulate
each other. Moreover, the marriages are stronger. The women and the men in
Generation X were married at an early age, while in Generation Y times have changed.
Men marry at 30, and women marry at 25. Although the customs and traditions around
death have not changed; they have become more luxurious and there is more waste
such as with food.
Secondly, the upbringing and development of values and behavior are also different
in raising children. Generation X parents had a significant role in bringing up their
children, but Generation Y often has more influence from the media, maids, and nanny
than the parents. Furthermore, relatives and friends value in the upbringing of the kids.
In the same way, the impact of modern technology affects the upbringing and development of
values. The behavior in Generation X did not have any impact, but in Generation Y it
has had a strong impact on children's behavior. For example, when Generation X kids were
born they did not have a computer or TV to see all the world. In the other hand,
Generation Y kids have a computer or television. That influenced changed their
thoughts.
Finally, the status of women in society were unfair in Generation X. In fact there
are a huge differences in this topic. Specifically, in terms of marriage, education, and
employment outside the home. The women in Generation X did not have the simple
rights such as choosing her husband or to speak about her desire to learn or work.
However, in Generation Y they can ask about all rights, so if anyone wanted anything
they could just say yes I agree or no I disagree.
From the above we can see the differences between Generation X and
Generation Y such as the social life, upbringing, and the status of women. Despite the
differences between each generation they both feature and have significance in history.
So, what do you think; which is the best generation ever?
